Georges Briard was an award-winning mid-century modern artist.  Born in Russia in 1917, he moved to the United States at the age of 20 and attended the Art Institute of Chicago.  Originally he would buy blanks from Anchor Hocking and Libbey and hand draw his designs on the glasses.  Later he learned he could license his designs to glass manufacturers and his designs were carried by prestigious department stores such as Neiman Marcus and Bonwit Teller.
